Today our training class put on our red Volunteer shirts and headed over to the local Boys and Girls Club.
Giving back to the community is something Wells Fargo is proud of, but today was also a chance for us to have some fun outside the office.
Personally, I've been dying to play some basketball since I arrived in Charlotte, and today I finally got what I asked for. Little did I know I was about to get destroyed by little 13-14 year olds. They were way shorter and skinnier than me but I'm convinced one of them will be an NBA player one day. They were so talented.
I also had an interesting moment with one of the younger ones at the opposite end of the court.
The little boy was probably 9-10 years old. We were all shooting around with them, fetching the balls they missed, cheering them on, having a good time. I was casually telling this dude to go ahead and shoot, and he said, "I always miss from here though."
I insisted, "you don't know that. I haven't seen you miss one yet!"
"But I'm going to miss, I always do".
"Go for it, I know you're going to hit it. You going to make me wait?"
So he shot it. And made it.
Not sure if he was being shy or pulling my leg or genuinely scared to miss. Whatever it was, he overcame it after a little push and made the shot.
All in all, I really enjoyed spending time with these kids. They were happy to have us there and we were happy to be there. Giving back is rewarding.
